Proton Therapy for Breast Cancer

Fighting breast cancer with innovative proton treatment.

About Breast Cancer Treatment

Approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. While traditional radiation treatment methods that use X-rays such as IMRT or TomoTherapy can be effective in treating breast cancer, they can often cause treatment-related side effects due to excess radiation exposure. Proton therapy can help lower the risk of excess radiation because protons can be stopped inside the tumor. Proton therapy is available to patients with early-stage and locally-advanced breast cancers such as: Ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS), Inflammatory breast cancer, ER, PR positive or negative, Her2Neu positive or negative, triple-positive or triple-negative breast cancer, recurrent breast cancer and breast cancer patients who have previously received radiation therapy in close proximity to the new target area.

Proton therapy has proven clinical results

Proton therapy may be especially beneficial for breast cancer patients by minimizing damage to nearby tissue and critical organs, such as the heart and lungs. The risk of side effects is also lowered, including reducing the chance of experiencing a cardiac event or developing lung cancer or pneumonitis. Due to the painless and noninvasive nature of proton therapy treatment, you can get back to your daily activities quicker and maintain the same quality of life. Patients may see up to:

  • %
REDUCED RADIATION EXPOSURE TO THE HEART
  • %
REDUCED RADIATION EXPOSURE TO THE OTHER BREAST
  • %
REDUCED RADIATION EXPOSURE TO THE LUNGS
