Oklahoma Proton Center Featured on News 9

In April 2019, Oklahoma Proton Center was ecstatic to learn that the recent updates to our proton therapy center were featured on News 9 for all of Oklahoma to see. We recently reopened our doors and stand at the ready with state-of-the-art medical equipment and techniques for combating cancer and tumors in the human body.

Advantages of Proton Therapy, According to News 9

When News 9 wrote about the grand reopening, they interviewed patients of Oklahoma Proton Center. Patient Daniel Keesler said, “It’s completely painless. It’s not invasive at all, and I feel completely comfortable here with the staff and with the whole procedure.”  As of the news story’s publication, there are only 30 proton centers in the United States. Our Medical Director of Clinical Research and Education, Dr. John Han-Chih Chang, felt personally responsible for getting Oklahoma’s center up and running for the public.

“Utilizing protons is critically important, especially in areas where you have a lot of vital structures within the region,” Chang said. “The research that we’re doing here is going to be part of a collaboration on a national level to help us find the best treatment for patients for all types of cancers.”

Our Cancer Treatment Goals

With new owners, Oklahoma Proton Center is poised to advance the medical industry here in Oklahoma. The use of proton therapy, while still relatively new compared to other cancer treatment methods, is an effective treatment option that offers great results. Oklahoma Proton Center now offers proton therapy treatment for prostate cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, and GI cancers. The use of protons means fewer adverse side effects for patients, quicker recovery times, and higher survival rates overall.
